Welcome to "Let the People Talk: Tales of The Great Pandemic," a podcast dedicated to documenting the stories and experiences of people living in the Toe River Valley- Yancey, Mitchell, and Avery counties- during the years 2020 and 2021. We explore the fears, the frustrations, the humor, the joys, and sometimes the isolation & loneliness of folks in our little valleys and mountains when we first learned about and learned to live with Covid-19. The views and opinions expressed in "Let the People Talk" are expressed by citizens and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of the AMY Regional Library System. Any content provided by our hosts or creators of this podcast are of their opinion and do not reflect the opinions of the library system. "Let the People Talk" is funded through Humanities Relief Grant funding, provided to North Carolina Humanities by the National Endowment for the Humanities through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act passed by Congress in March. The $2.2 trillion CARES package included $75 million for the National Endowment for the Humanities, nearly $30 million, or a total of 40%, of which was sent to the state and jurisdictional humanities councils, including North Carolina Humanities, to distribute to local cultural nonprofits and programming.
